InsOut Project / The Challenge |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Two extremes:
some say we are born as a blank canvas which gets imprinted upon by the
environmental influences around us; others believe we are born with all
the ideas in the universe and we must channel our inner voice to “out”
these ideas. Which ever way around it is, it is abundantly clear we all
experience our thoughts and feelings about things in private. And the
distant between communicating these thoughts and feelings and having them
is vast.
The matter is further complicated by the fact that each of us comes with imposed and experience based biases and cultural interpretations. Hence, finding a common language for communication (whether with words, images, signs etc) can often be challenging and lead to misunderstandings. The InsOut Project accepts that we have an inner mode of expression, which is personal and only known to us. It aims to bridge the gap between this internal communication and that which is expressed in the public domain. Our use of different means of expression or communication demonstrates that we are not yet satisfied we have said or expressed our internal private thoughts and experiences effectively. The InsOut challenge is to explore the different communication tools and gather information about what works and what doesn’t. We want to learn from those who are able to express themselves effortlessly (talented artists, creatives and leaders). The “outing” of internal / inside experiences as well as the living of external / outside experiences in its different manifestations are the goals of InsOut; the acting out, the use of familiar and unfamiliar terms, the accepting and rejecting and clashing and complying that communication invokes are all explored in the InsOut Project. We will explore the InsOut boundaries that politics, culture and our biases have imposed upon us, with and without our consent. They may be:
The question thus remains, what is your InsOut? How would you express it? If you have a project that would be of interest to the InsOut concept please tell us about. If you would like to express your InsOut please send us your words, images, work etc and we may put it on our website: your thoughts and creativity are all welcome here. |
